Who is dumb ?

It was mid 2020 and the time of elections had come , there were two contestants running for the same. Lets name them x and y. So one fine day x claimed that y is influencing other people's decisions and in return y stated that people are not aware of the complete picture ( i am just enlightening them) , even if they are aware then also if given options they would tend to act emotionally or rather impulsively . So x strengthened his/her claim by arguing that who is y to declare people impulsive , he has no right to judge people and people can make their own choices , he shouldn't try to enlighten them with what he thinks is right . It turns out y was extremely clever and he quickly pointed out that if x is making such an acquisition then he contradicts his own saying , in claiming that y can't declare the majority impulsive and y shouldn't try to enlighten them with his thoughts , then x has himself considered that people are gonna be affected by what y says and they wil

My story of getting into IIT , The secret to achieve all your goals.

Ever wonder why you don't feel like doing what you wish to do. You can certainly feel a lack of conscious control in such situations. What is happening after all why can't you control your actions.  As we all know our actions are governed by our brain , but it has two subdivisions one which we can access consciously and the other which is deeply hidden away from our consciousness. Yeah this subconscious mind is responsible for almost 95% of our brain controlling most of actions. It never sleeps works around the clock making sure our body functions properly. Ever thought how you read , speak , write , drive , walk , stand, hold a cup while having your caffeine etc so effortlessly without worrying about anything, its subconscious behind the scenes which makes it possible. Essentially it is what we are and our very lives depend on what our subconscious is doing.  We are survival machines and our brain mechanisms have evolved through evolution and they are programmed to do what the

Acknowledge the Obvious, hacking humans.

Its quite evident that we are facing huge amount of technological disruption. The pace of change has gone to such a level that no one can make sense of what is happening around the world. More and more money is being put in R&D and pace of change is accelerating every day , everybody wants to get there first. Although this rapid advancement in technology has huge potential , we humans are not very farsighted , because we don't have the tools to forecast the implications of something deep down the line. Nonethless nobody can risk it, they have to get there first.  Everyday Facebook , Youtube , Netflix etc are collecting tons of data, and they are beginning to understand what triggers us. Social media seems free , but obviously its not, you are not only paying with your time but most importantly your attention. They know exactly where your attention is. These companies have collected huge amounts of data , with our advances in computing power they possess the ability to hack our m

Getting bored : After watching The 100

I recently completed 6 seasons of "The 100" , a Netflix Series, this series covers a lot of ground, making it an epitome of technological disruption. It is set in a post apocalyptic world , almost a century later an apparent nuclear war resulted in demise of the planet earth , apparently last of humanity resides on a space station , which they call the Ark. The life support at ark is dying so 100 juveniles are sent to the ground to check if it is safe. They land on ground assuming they are the last of humanity , its kinda obvious they are not alone.  Slowly the story builds up and you are up for a ride. I will not bore you with the specifics but lets see what was it all about. The series is packed with all sorts of technological marvels and our apparent inability to decide what we really want. They have literally covered it all. What they thought to be a nuclear war turned out to be a AI gone out of control ( this one's definitely a cliche) , Meanwhile they were strugglin

Do we really need eyes to see?

What is it that makes us perceive this world, guessed it right ,the brain. Probably the most mysterious part of our body , as complex as it gets. Turns out brain has an ability of making sense of data thrown at it. Our eyes are responsible for converting visual data in form of signals to feed it into the brain. Which slowly learns to make sense of it. How exactly it does that is still a mystery. What if those visual signals may be passed to brain in some other way, Formally called sensory substitution. It can be through skin , ear , nose , even tongue or how about providing visual data to brain directly. One such example is Brainport in which pixel data is transmitted in form of electric pulses through a persons tongue.Sounds pretty cool to me. So what is the point. The thing is what we feel as real is mostly in our head really being just matter and energy, how brain makes sense of it is remarkable. We possess such an amazing machine so why just rely on the sensory information that we

Why I started competitive programming

Image
I heard about competitive programming sometime in my first semester. At that time i was just beginning to learn c language . I just kind of looked into it .My only motivation for looking it up was  that everybody was talking about it , human nature maybe. After my first semester i had learnt nothing significant, although people comfortable with basic programming , began exploring different domains in the programming world. So i decided to begin my programming journey in my winter break.  Wait !!! What about all the talk that you gave in your first blog post , like a reason for starting something Hang tight , Its coming I was going to have a programming intro course in my second semester, seniors already gave a hint that this course is not at all easy, performance in it can also affect your prospects for future courses. So just like any inexperienced fresher i started to look for some kind of online assistance. After breezing through a lot of online tutorials i began with a youtube cha

Right approach to learning

Image
First things first what is the motive here, Why to Learn something ? The very first question you should ask yourself before starting anything is why to do it, Its crucial because a solid reason to work is necessary for being consistent  towards your goal. You might be wondering its just never clear to me why am i doing something. If you feel that way its perfectly normal , the irony is we humans tend to understand very less about ourselves, are we even under control of our desires or we are just prisoner to our mind , it could be heavily debated so i will leave it for another time. Before diving into anything , we should carefully analyse the skills that we will gain so we can  create a vision of what we will be capable of once we learn the damn thing. It is important because nobody wants to waste time learning something which may result in disappointment. If you decide to pursue the skill do remind yourselves of the vision each and everyday so you can keep your pace.  Some of you migh
